The Hunter Gatherer Dinner Club
The Hunter Gatherer Dinner club is dedicated to proving that modern, urbanized humans are still hunter gatherers at heart. Fast forward to our modern, industrialized world where we think in terms of 'diet' rather than food as we fiddle with the various proportions of carbs-to-protein-to fat-to roughage-to-vitamins-to electrolytes and minerals that food is now dissected into. Gone is the targeted effort of tens of thousands of years that we humans sought food where we could, when we listened to our bodies needs in sourcing efficient, sustaining nourishment. Now, as we access our daily energy by reaching for a packet devoid of all the sensory cues that previously guided our food choices, spare a thought for the landscapes and water systems that supply this. These are the real 'World Banks' and we have been borrowing from them since the Agrarian Revolution taught us how to turn the vast, mega biodiversity of grasslands into mono-species croplands.
Today the challenge of a hunter gatherer dinner is to never 'reach for the packet' or the 'nutrient added'
'meal solution'. The Hunter Gatherer Dinner Club is an association of food enjoyers, food experts and food
providores that hold wonderful, eclectic dinners based on a modern take of our original and natural hunter
gatherer diet - all set amidst natural landscapes. All foods can be hunted and gathered at the local butcher,
green grocer, fishmonger, delicatessen or the garden, the river, the sea, the field and the woodland. All animal
derived foods to come from a free range background. At each dinner at least one key food to be 'wild' hunted/gathered
from the land or the water provided it is not endangered. All foods must start as raw but can then be dried, cured,
salted, ground, boiled, roasted, baked, pressed, fermented, separated, curdled…But no 'processed' foods can be used.
